Nippon Steel Sumitomo Metals’ (NSSM) Oita plant, the largest supplier of steel plate to Japan’s shipbuilding industry, has reopened after a seven-month closure.

In January, the plant was forced to stop production because of damage caused by a fire.

As reported by TradeWinds at the time, there was concern that the country’s shipbuilders might not be able to secure sufficient steel plate in time to meet delivery schedules.
