Japanese shipyards won orders for three VLCCs last month, giving an indication that this year's demand for tankers still has momentum.

The orders were revealed in monthly new contracting figures from the Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA).

The association does not name the yards or owners involved in the orders. However, last month Tokyo-listed Kyoei Tanker announced it had placed an order for a 310,300-dwt VLCC at Japan Marine United (JMU).
