Onomichi Dockyard's marine gas oil (MGO) mono-fuel engine might not be the right solution for all shipowners after 2020, sources have claimed.
The yard itself says it is most suited for ships up to handymax but it might not be the best option for vessels above that size with larger fuel consumption.
Some experts point out that such a single-fuel ship will not allow owners to switch between MGO and low-sulphur heavy fuel oil, depending on the price differentials that emerge in the post-2020 fuels market.
