Ballast water management system (BWMS) maker OceanSaver filed for bankruptcy protection, according to a company spokesperson.

The bankruptcy filing comes after the Drammen-based company lost an arbitration claim against another company Bollfilter, which makes wire mesh filters.

OceanSaver claimed the filters, which were part of BWMS devices sold to Asian shipyards in 2010 and 2011, were defective. But an arbitration court dismissed OceanSaver's claims, forcing it to pay legal costs on both sides for the action.
