George Economou's DryShips has re-entered the tanker market with deals to purchase a VLCC and an aframax.

The Nasdaq-listed bulker, offshore and VLGC player said it had acquired a 320,105-dwt ship built in 2011 and a 113,644-dwt resale to be delivered from South Korea in the second quarter of 2017.

Both will be employed in the spot market. The combined price is $102.5m.
