Eurotankers of Greece has secured a surprisingly strong rate on a charter for up to a year for its oldest suezmax.

European shipbrokers said the 159,000-dwt Eurohope (built 1999) had been fixed for six months with options for another six months at $14,500 per day. The tanker is said to have been taken by United Maritime Logistics.

The rate compares well with modern suezmaxes, which have held steady this week at $17,000 per day for year-long charters, according to Clarksons.
