Greek tanker owner New Shipping has been taking advantage of robust scrapping values this year. It has offloaded 1999-built VLCCs as they approach their special survey due date and promptly replaced them with slightly younger units at relatively cheap secondhand prices.

The Adam Polemis-led company has emerged as the new owner of the 300,300-dwt Rokkosan (built 2003). The Universal Shipbuilding-constructed vessel used to be in the fleet of Japan’s MOL but was reported sold last month for $21m to unidentified buyers.
