Ina statement Dr Peters said Salamon had died at his home in Dorsten, Germany. Heis survived by his wife and three daughters.

“His death came to all who were close to him and whoworked with him, suddenly and totallysurprising,” the Dr Peters Group said.

“With Jurgen Salamon we lose anoutstanding personality and acharismatic and extremely successful entrepreneur.”

Germany’sleading tanker financier is said to have taken steps to ensure businesscontinuity at his investment company.

Group managing director Anselm Gehling will assume operationalmanagement of the Dr Peters Group, it has been confirmed.

“We are shocked and saddened. However, it is now our duty to continue the business in the sense of Mr Salamon,”Gehling said.

“I think that wethus do exactly whatMr Salamon wouldhave wished for this case andexpect from us,” he added.

“Our thoughts are with thefamily at this difficult time Salamon,especially his wife and three daughtersto whom we wish the force necessaryto overcome this difficult situation.”

Salamon took over Dr Peters GmbH in 1990 and developed it with a cumulative investment of more than EUR6.7bn ($8.5bn) toone of the largest owner-managed asset investment funds.

Inaddition to ship financing, the group is active in real estate and in 2007entered the aircraft financing sector.
