It made a loss of just $2m versus the loss of $28m seen a year ago.

Odfjell said ebitda of $36m reflected “a better utilization of our chemical tanker fleet and a somewhat better market.”

It described thethree months just gone as the “best quarter for chemical tankers since thethird quarter of 2008”.

It said earnings on a time-charter basis ended up 8% compared to the previous quarter, and the average freight rate per tonne shipped increased by 2%.
