Aker Philadelphia has invested $58.5m into the project, with American Shipping putting in $25m.
Philly Tankers, the new company, has taken an initial two newbuildings at Aker Philadelphia with options for two more.
The firm ships, priced at $125m each, are set to hit the water in the final quarter of 2016 and the first quarter of 2017. The options could follow in the third and fourth quarters of 2017.
