The company said it is paying $37.1m for a ship being built at SPP Shipbuilding for hand-over in September this year.
TradeWinds understands the vessel is the 50,000-dwt hull S5126, controlled by Peter Livanos-led Ceres Hellenic and its partner JP Morgan.
Four other ships in the series were sold to Scorpio Tankers last year for $151m.
Scorpio also announced it had recently taken delivery of two MRs from Hyundai Mipo in Korea.
