Moundreas adds VLCC

Greek owner NGM Energy has acquired its second VLCC with the purchase of the 299,000-dwt DS Victory (built 2001) from DS Tankers of Germany.

George Moundreas confirmed that the company will take delivery of the Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME)-built tanker quite soon. He did not confirm the reported price of $33.6m for the ship, but suggested that the tag was in this region.

The company bought its first VLCC in March 2013. The 309,000-dwt Alter Ego (ex-Antonis, built 2001) cost the company $26m at the time.

Last month TradeWinds reported that the vessel had been fixed to Core Petroleum at $25,000 per day.

Moundreas says that in fact the Alter Ego has been fixed for 19 months at an attractive $25,500 per day.

It has also emerged that in February the company bought the 159,200-dwt tanker Kim Jacob (built 1998), which has been renamed La Mer, for a reported $14.5m.

The company now has tonnage in almost all sectors of the tanker market covering VLCC, suezmax, aframax and smaller chemical carriers, as well as operating capesize, panamax and supramax bulk carriers.
