“The recent slowdown of demand growth is nothing short of remarkable,” the agency said.

It said oil demand growth will be 900,000 bpd against earlier estimates of 1.05m bpd taking projected demand for the year to 92.6m bpd.

The forecast for 2015 growth has been revised to 1.2m bpd, down from 1.3m bpd which puts 2015 demand at 93.8m bpd.

The revisions come on the back of weakening economic growth outlooks in the Eurozone and China and declining power sector demand in Japan.
