Canadian oil giant Suncor Energy has loaded Minerva Maritime’s 115,900-dwt Minerva Gloria (built 2009) from the Sorel-Tracy facility on the St Lawrence River with a cargo believed to be bound for Italy.
Bloomberg says oil have been loaded onto the vessel in what is the first waterborne shipment of Western Canadian Select from Canada’s eastern coast.
Eirik Haavaldsen of Pareto Securities says the trade will have to be for smaller crude tankers given the ships must pass down the St Lawrence River.
