The sheriff’s shackles were put on the 2,800-dwt bunker tanker Laguna (built 1993) yesterday while it was anchored in Singapore’s Eastern Bunkering Anchorage. The vessel is owned by Singapore-based Norr Systems Pte Ltd.
It may be a small vessel but the legal ramifications of the case will have a significant impact on the entire shipping industry.
Hin Leong, a Singapore-based oil trading major and parent group of Ocean Tankers, claims the Laguna misdelivered a cargo a 2,714 metric ton of high sulphur marine fuel oil that had been procured through OW for delivery to the Malaysian port of Tanjung Pengileh on 5 November.
