The credit and distress investment arm of HIG has acquired six stainless steel chemical tankers with an average age of eight years from Japanese owners and ordered 14 vessels in China during this year and 2013.
The newbuildings will be delivered by Nantong Mingde Heavy Industry from the end of 2016 and throughout 2017. All the vessels are in the 20,000-dwt to 24,600-dwt range.
