The policy, unveiled by the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), is the latest easing of the country’s crude export ban.

A BIS list of “frequently asked questions” confirms that unprocessed condensates still qualify as crude under US law, which currently prohibits crude exports outside of Alaska.

However, the agency said condensates only have to go through a “crude oil distillation tower” to qualify as an oil product, which is not subject to the restrictions.

The
