Only double-hulled or double-bottomed ships will carry heavy grade oils on inland coastal routes from February.
The decision was taken on Wednesday at a meeting of the shipping ministry to resolve disputes among members of the Bangladesh Petroleum Tankers Association and Bangladesh Oil Transportation Ship Owners Association, the Financial Express reported.
Single-hulled but double-bottomed tankers will be allowed to transport oil provided they have class society certification and are aged below 25 years.
