According to the new legislation, sulphur content should not exceed 0.5% while at berth in the country’s ports, except during the first hour after arrival and the last hour before departure.

The regulation will come into effect from 1 July and is added to the low-sulphur regulation that was introduced on 1 January to certain areas of Europe and America.

Vessels that do not meet the new rules will be liable to a fine of up to $200,000 and imprisonment for six months.
