Greece’s Chandris (Hellas) has agreed to pay penalties of $1m for concealing pollution from a tanker in the US.
AP reported that it pleaded guilty on Tuesday in Corpus Christi federal court to violations of the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships.
The 162,800-dwt Sestrea (built 2009) had been accused in February of dumping oily waste off the Texas Gulf Coast.
According to court records cited by AP, the chief engineer failed to document that the ship had dumped directly into the sea.
