Tankers have begun to queue outside French ports after the country was hit by strikes by oil sector workers.

Unions are protesting against the government's proposed new labour market rules, Reuters reported.

Workers blocked fuel depots and oil terminals, creating a shortage of petrol.

Queues of tankers have formed off Le Havre, near Total's refinery at Gonfreville, the country's biggest, as well as ExxonMobil's Port Jerome plant.
