Brazil’s Transpetro has torn up orders for seven tankers worth $1.22bn at the domestic Atlantico Sul Shipyard (EAS).

The shipping unit of state oil company Petrobras said in a statement published by Brazilian newspapers that four suezmax and three aframax newbuildings have been cancelled at the Suape yard.

The ships were part of the $5.5bn Promef programme for modernisation of the state fleet, which saw a total of 47 vessels ordered.
