The key Belgian port of Antwerp has pushed up cargo volumes 3.9% in the first quarter.
The growth to 53.26m tonnes was driven by liquid bulk numbers rising 10.6% to 17.69m tonnes.
Overall March volumes reached their highest ever levels.
"The Port Authority is naturally very pleased with these excellent growth figures but nevertheless guards against unbridled optimism in view of the continuing volatility and turbulence in the market," it said.
