Japanese tanker companies Idemitsu Tanker and Showa Shell Senpaku will officially merge their VLCC and gas carrier fleets from 1 January 2020.

The consolidation move follows the merger of Japanese oil giants Idemitsu Kosan and Showa Shell Sekiyu in April of this year, which resulted in Showa Shell becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of Idemitsu Kosan.

The two fleets have already been largely working in combination under the name Brighter Energy Alliance prior to the formal merger.
