A spike in distillates demand due to the IMO's new fuel rules will be short-lived, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).

Sulphur regulations coming into force in 2020 will see a near-1m barrel-per-day (bpd) rise in gasoil consumption as owners switch from high-sulphur fuel, it said.

This will be due to a lack of preparation by owners, not enough of whom will be LNG-ready or will have fitted exhaust scrubbers to ships.
