Maritime UK has established a task force focused on increasing the number of women in maritime, especially within senior roles across shipping, ports, marine and business services industries.
"Achieving a balanced workforce at all levels in the maritime sector will undoubtedly improve culture, behaviour, outcomes, profitability and productivity," the London-based organisation said.
During London International Shipping Week in September, then-maritime minister John Hayes called for the industry to address gender imbalance in the sector.
