Pakistan has banned the scrapping of tankers and LPG carriers at Gadani Shipbreaking Yard following two fatal accidents in the last three months.
Local media said Balochistan chief minister Nawab Sanaullah Zehri made the order with immediate effect after a review of the incidents.
The government is also setting up the Gadani Shipbreaking Regulatory Authority to eventually oversee scrapping work.
Until it is formed, a committee comprising authorities and representatives from the breaking industry will perform this role.
