VLCC rates surged to an eight-month high Monday as cracks appeared in planned Opec cuts and as one large tanker prepared to carry a US export cargo to China.
The Baltic Exchange's assessment of average spot earnings for the sector jumped 9.2% today to reach $44,500 per day, the highest level since April.
The assessment for the benchmark Middle East-to-Japan route surged to $60,400 per day.
