Shipping folk from around the globe descend on the small town of Leer. But eight years of crisis have left their mark at the 508th Gallimarkt with several names all but disappeared.
Notably absent was Reederei Hermann Buss, whose offices still bear its name but are run under the banner of Liberty One.
Despite that, Leer is weathering the crisis and remains the home to Germany’s second-largest shipowning cluster.
