A bid to persuade Japanese shipowners of the benefit of buying protection-and-indemnity (P&I) club cover through a broker is being made by Arthur J Gallagher.
Gallagher has formed a partnership with two Japanese brokers to try to change the way P&I cover is placed in the huge but inward-looking Japanese market.
Japan has the world’s second-largest merchant fleet after Greece but Japanese owners usually deal directly with their P&I clubs and most look to the Tokyo-based Japan Club.
