Britain is such a centralised country, it is unsurprising that many foreign visitors think it begins and ends in London. If you read the media, you would be forgiven for thinking the same thing: probably 90% of national newspaper staff are based in the capital.
Yet I am endlessly amazed on trips back to my home town of Leeds in the north or work trips to Birmingham in central England how little London means to many Britons.
