Mechlenburg, who set up the company alongside chief executive Mikael Skov in 2010, will say farewell at the end of this year.
Skov told TradeWinds that there would be no Hafnia Tankers today without Mechlenburg’s contribution.
The pair were previously together at Torm, where Mechlenburg’s positions included executive vice-president of shipowning and sales-and-purchase.
Hafnia Tankers said Mechlenburg had “left a mark on the industry during his 38 years in shipping”.
