Japanese shipowner NYK has emerged as the favourite to win charter contracts to back four LNG carrier newbuildings that will likely be contracted in China.
Industry sources say NYK, which is working in partnership with compatriot trader Itochu on the project, now looks in pole position for the ships after slugging it out with some of the companies that have already contracted specialised ice-breaking tonnage for the Russian Yamal project.
