Daiichi Chuo Kisen is believed to have secured a figure of between of $14.5m and $15m for the Tsuneishi Cebu-built, 58,000-dwt New Caledonia Maru (built 2013).

This was compared with the sale of the IHI-built, 55,000-dwt Western Tokyo (built 2012) for a price in the low-$14m range.

Some suggest the New Caledonia Maru signalled an upward shift in asset values, factoring in that it was contracted at a satellite yard in the Philippines.
