The rising tide of secondhand bulker sales has not lifted all tonnage values, with Chinese-built ships seeing even steeper discounts than in previous years.

Brokers and ship inspectors say vessels built during the Chinese shipbuilding boom prior to 2010 are showing higher levels of corrosion, poorer welding and generally more wear than ships of similar vintage from other Asian yards.
