Previously known as Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI), the state-owned Chinese yard will build three 50,000-dwt IMO II/III class tankers for the Taiwanese owner for delivery in 2019. Several shipyards from Japan, South Korea and China were challenging for the project and many observers thought it would be awarded to a Korean shipyard due to their record and competitiveness.

A source familiar with the deal says CSSC OME secured the contract because of its long record as a builder and its adaptability.
