The six-member board of John Fredriksen’s tanker company Frontline lists just one person who qualifies as an “independent” director — her name is Kate Blankenship.

Frontline would need a majority of independent directors were it domiciled in the US rather than Bermuda, whose rules allow just a sole independent.

But the woman Frontline tapped to fill this role is also a board member of four other companies either fully or partly controlled by Fredriksen, worked for Frontline for more than a decade and has since been employed by a Fredriksen affiliate.
