The legendary "fog on the Tyne" has begun to clear for Cammell Laird in this historically famous shipbuilding corner of Britain.

The keel was recently laid at Hebburn for one of two ro-ro shuttle ferries for Torghatten Trafikkselskap, the first newbuildings on Tyneside for several years.

There Cammell Laird employs between 600 and 800 people but the group has recognised the need to train apprentices.
