State-owned Coal India Ltd (CIL), India’s largest coal producer, is likely to attract domestic dry-bulk operators when it floats its maiden coal-import tender next month.

Officials at the Kolkata-based company confirm it is looking to import nearly six million tonnes of coal from countries including Australia, Indonesia and South Africa between September and next March.

They add that the coal will be used by state-owned utilities such as National Thermal Power Co (NTPC) and Damodar Valley Corp (DVC).
