Victor Restis has petitioned the Greek courts to overturn a ruling issued last week that sees the shipowner and business magnate held in custody for 10 days.
Lawyers lodged the petition with the Athens court of first instance on Tuesday, seeking his release with provisos limiting his freedom.
It is not clear how long the three-member judicial panel will take to rule on the petition, but Petros Machas, one of the the lawyers representing Restis, says a preliminary decision is expected “within the month”.
