As movie audiences prepared to see actor Barkhad Abdi portray Somali pirate Abduwali Muse on the big screen, the real life Muse saw his bid to throw out his 33-year sentence dashed by a US judge.
Judge Loretta Preska, the chief judge of the federal court in Manhattan, denied Muse’s motion to vacate the sentence just days before last Friday’s release of the film “Captain Phillips”, in which Abdi co-stars alongside Tom Hanks.
