Japan’s Santoku Shipping has wrapped up major bulker-newbuilding deals supported by long-term charters with trader SwissMarine and mining and metals giant Rio Tinto.

The family-owned company has ordered three 82,000-dwt kamsarmax bulkers at Tsuneishi Shipbuilding based on a long-term deal with SwissMarine.

SwissMarine’s Peter Weernink confirms the order and says the ships will be delivered in 2015 and 2016. He declines to offer details on the terms of the contract other than it will be for a long term and includes a purchase option.
