Most significantly, legislation will come into force from 1 January that ends the monopoly that state entity Gazprom has on gas exports, which will open the door for projects such as Novatek-led Yamal to move forward.
This new gas-export law was pushed through by Russian president Vladimir Putin, who has also given large tax breaks and infrastructure support that have benefitted Yamal in what is seen as his bid to raise Russia’s standing in the global LNG markets.
