PAG’s investment in Nordic was widely taken as a signal that Asian private equity had begun to take notice of the shipping industry.
Alex Ryland, DNB Asia’s senior vice-president of Shipping, Offshore & Logistics, believes this marks only the beginning.
“Going forward, we will see Asian private equity and capital playing a bigger role in European shipping,” he said.
Europe is seen as a key market for Asian private equity as there has been little opportunity to invest in the Asian shipping industry.
