The US government is proposing to include vessels’ environmental features when it considers bids for federal ship-loan guarantees.
The US Maritime Administration (MarAd) said “eco” features and alternative fuels will be considered as part of the so-called economic soundness portion of reviews for Title XI applications.
“The consideration of such initiatives is consistent not only with previous congressional priorities, but also with the programmatic imperative to remain current with emerging standards, trends and critical needs,” the agency said in the US Federal Register.
