John Angelicoussis has made his first VLCC investment since interest in the sector took off at the end of last year.
Angelicoussis-led Maran Tankers has bought a single VLCC from DK Maritime in a deal that some anticipate will be followed by a newbuilding order at sister company DSME, which has built 17 out of Maran’s 22 VLCCs.
Maran has paid $89m for the 320,000-dwt Blue Jade (built 2012), TradeWinds understands.
