Japan’s largest shipbuilder, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), has bought a stake in Maritime Innovation Japan Corp (MIJAC), a technology company set up by the country’s yards to advance national shipbuilding technology and develop fuel-efficient designs.

MHI has taken up a minor 4% stake in MIJAC but, rather than the scale of the investment, the significance of the move is being seen in terms of what it will be able to add to its own technology development.
