A Swiss logistics firm has become the latest to be targeted with claims in connection with the hazardous chemical thought to have led to the fatal 2011 casualty on the boxship MSC Flaminia.

Several claimants in New York litigation over the incident have filed complaints that for the first time individually call out Basel-based Panalpina.

The outfit is alleged to have been the freight forwarder for a cargo of divinylbenzene (DVB), a chemical that is believed to have touched off the fire and explosion that struck the 6,732-teu MSC Flaminia (built 2001), killing three crewmen.
