Chinese shipping giant Cosco Holding is poised to book a series of 14,000-teu newbuildings at a domestic yard.
Informed sources say the country’s top shipbuilders have been asked by Cosco to come up with the most up-to-date design for the vessels.
Yards that are said to have shown interest in the project include Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co (DSIC), Cosco’s joint-venture shipyards with Japan’s Kawasaki Heavy Shipbuilding — Nantong Kawasaki Cosco Shipyard (Nacks) and Dalian Cosco KHI Shipbuilding (Dacks) — and Singapore-listed Cosco Shipyard.
