Dry bulk owners’ association Intercargo has warned safety could be put at risk if nickel ore cargoes are misdeclared to avoid the Indonesian mineral export ban.
Intercargo secretary general Rob Lomas told the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) he is concerned over reports that shippers are declaring part nickel ore cargoes as iron ore in an effort to escape the ban, which has been in place since January.
